Hospice Mississauga Applauds City Council’s $16.25 Million Loan Approval for First Dedicated Hospice Centre

Mississauga, ON – June 2025 – Hospice Mississauga extends heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Carolyn Parrish and the City of Mississauga Council for their unanimous approval of a $16.25 million loan at the City’s preferred interest rate to assist Hospice Mississauga to begin construction on Mississauga’s first dedicated hospice centre at 2176 Speakman Drive. Construction is scheduled to commence in fall 2025.

“This is a historic milestone for Mississauga—the groundbreaking of our first Hospice Centre represents hope, compassion, choice, and partnership in action,” said Kitrina Fex, Chief Executive Officer of Hospice Mississauga. “This agreement is a testament to what we can accomplish when communities and government work together. For nearly 40 years, we have served this community, and now we are bringing a long-time dream to fruition. “

Twelve dedicated care suites, a great room, and kitchen will anchor the 40,000-square-foot Centre. It will offer 24/7 compassionate end-of-life care and be a community hub for a community palliative care clinic and hospice support programs including grief and bereavement, wellness and social connection activities. It fills a gap in our local healthcare system.

Mayor Carolyn Parrish emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “The City of Mississauga is honoured to be part of this groundbreaking for its first-ever hospice centre. This facility will offer critical services and comfort to residents when they need it most. I look forward to seeing its impact on our community.”

Ninety per cent of the funding for the new Hospice Centre will need to come from the community, with the remaining 10% coming from the provincial government.

Hospice Mississauga invites community members and caring businesses to contribute to the ongoing Building Compassion Campaign, ensuring that no family in Mississauga faces their end-of-life journey alone. The opening of a new Hospice Centre in Mississauga will provide residents with the option to receive care and support within their local community – The community they call home.
