Meet Shriya!

A couple of months ago, we launched a new Micro-Volunteering initiative aimed at providing busy professionals – and social butterflies – volunteer opportunities with greater flexibility. The project-based structure matches people’s skills and availability with short-term project needs within the Hospice. Luckily for us, Shriya, an HR professional who is training for a career change, heard about the program and contacted us. Shriya has been honing her new skills by volunteering with with the Fund Development team. Recently, we asked her to share her experience and here’s what she told us!

My name is Shriya, and I’ve been a micro-volunteer with Hospice Mississauga since March of 2025.

I support the Fund Development team as a graphic designer. My role involves putting together posters, infographics, and other various visual graphic assets to promote Hospice Mississauga’s various events, fundraisers, programs and initiatives, and to increase public awareness and outreach by sharing valuable information about all the wonderful things that Hospice Mississauga has to offer and has accomplished for the community so far. 

I chose to volunteer with Mississauga Hospice for two main reasons: firstly, because I strongly support Hospice Mississauga’s mission and vision to lead and provide compassionate palliative care in the local community, and secondly, because I am in the middle of a career transition and am hoping to eventually work full-time in graphic design and wanted to gain experience in the field. 

 My experience since joining has been nothing short of amazing. The team, and every other staff member that I have had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with, have been very welcoming and friendly. It is wonderful to not only be part of a team where you can feel how genuine and passionate everyone is about supporting those in need, but to also be able to take that energy and care and translate it into visual content that everyone can see and learn from.
