Ministry of Health Announces Funding of two Additional beds for Mississauga’s First Hospice Centre

Mississauga, Ontario – January 27, 2025 – Hospice Mississauga to receive funding for two additional beds for Mississauga’s first Hospice Centre.

This additional funding supports Hospice Mississauga’s mission to provide compassion, support and advocacy that lessens the distress of serious illness and loss on individuals, families and the community.

With the funding for these beds now in place, Mississauga’s first dedicated Hospice Centre will operate 12 care suites enabling the organization to provide specialized care to more individuals with life-limiting illnesses, respite for caregivers, and grief and bereavement support to family members and loved ones. The funding comes at a time when demand for hospice services in Mississauga continues to rise.

“We are appreciative of the Ministry of Health’s commitment to improving hospice care in our community,” said Kitrina Fex, Executive Director, Hospice Mississauga, “This increase in funding is helping close the critical gap in end-of-life care services that exists in our community. Two additional beds will ensure that more residents of Mississauga will have the option to choose to receive the dignity and compassionate care they deserve within their own city,” continued, Fex, “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Ministry of Health to expand access to these essential services.”

The additional hospice beds not only allow for an increase in capacity but also reinforce ongoing efforts to enhance palliative care services across the region. These services are vital in helping individuals facing life-limiting illnesses receive the specialized care they need and help families and loved ones navigate the impacts of loss and grief.

“Our government is ensuring people and their families have access to the comprehensive care they need in their community, close to their loved ones, at every stage of life,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “By investing in the expansion of end-of-life care in communities across the province, we are taking another step to connect Ontarians to compassionate and specialized care closer to home.”

Hospice Mississauga remains resolute in pursuing its vision to lead, provide, partner and inspire excellent hospice palliative care in the community by providing end-of-life care that prioritizes comfort, respect, individual choice, and support.
